How it Works
You’ve probably
heard of "phishing" scams on the internet. These schemes
lure you to Web sites that imitate the look and feel of sites you
know and trust, like banks, auction sites or Internet Services. They
are intended to trick you into entering personal information like
passwords and or credit card numbers.
It
is easy to be fooled by these sites. To help you avoid the dangers
they pose, we have developed the AT&T Toolbar.
The AT&T Toolbar is a software program that AT&T
Worldnet members can download at no extra cost. It works with your
browser* to alert you when you navigate to a site that may be associated
with a phishing scheme.
It’s
easy to install and to use. Simply click on the Download link below
or in the navigation bar above and save the file to a location on
your hard drive. Open the file and the application will install itself
in your browser.
The
AT&T Toolbar analyzes Web addresses as your browser
processes them. When it finds an attribute in the address that is
associated with phishing Web sites, it gives you a warning. It also
warns you when you are navigating to an address that is known to be
a phishing site, based on industry reports. Once installed and turned
on, it works automatically to detect web addresses that could pose
a threat.
You
always have the choice to either continue to the site that prompted
the warning or remain on the current site.
The
AT&T Toolbar offers other security related features.
It provides an easy way to report phishing/scam attempts that the
toolbar itself might have missed. It also gives you easy access to
other security software that might be installed on your computer.
*At
present the AT&T Toolbar is available ONLY for Microsoft Windows 2000,
XP or Vista, IE 6.0 service pack 2 or higher.
